Lonzo Ball's relationship with his father, LaVar Ball, has come a long way since the day he was drafted No. 2 overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. Following two years of underwhelming results after some sky-high expectations, the oldest of the Ball brothers finds himself no longer in La La Land after being traded along with Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The move, along with the drama surrounding the crumbling of Big Baller Brand, has put some palpable strain between father and son — something that was visible during their Facebook Watch show “Ball In The Family.”

“I don’t know. We’re still not really talking,” said Lonzo when asked of his father's reaction to the blockbuster trade that sent him to The Big Easy.

The stark difference in their relationship has been very visible in recent episodes. On the previous episode, the two were seen having a very loud difference of opinion, with LaVar taking aim at his own son and chastising him for his injuries.

Lonzo admitted their formerly tight-knit relationship is no longer that in recent days:

“Our relationship is not how it’s been in the past. So, we’re not really talking too much right now. I really don’t know how he feels. But I know he wants just the best for me. He should be happy. I don’t know.”

LaVar has not been able to make much of Lonzo's trade to New Orleans besides some self-aggrandizing prophecies. The 51-year-old, as seen on the show, is still refusing to believe that BBB will need an image redesign to bounce back from bankruptcy — a disconnect that has only further strained the relationship between him and his son Lonzo.
