New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry reportedly loves the idea of having a Lonzo Ball-Jrue Holiday backcourt in the Big Easy, according to Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com.

The Los Angeles Lakers will try and trade for Anthony Davis again this summer after failing to acquire him at the February trade deadline. The Lakers can offer the Pelicans a package centered around Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Gentry and the Pelicans supposedly like Ball, but it looks like Lonzo's outspoken dad — LaVar — isn't a fan of New Orleans:

“It’s probably Boston first and then I’d put the Lakers second,” Lopez said on an appearance on ESPN LA. “The Lakers do have good assets that people in the Pelicans organization value. For instance, Alvin Gentry loves the idea of having a Lonzo Ball-Jrue Holiday backcourt. LaVar Ball does not love the idea of a Lonzo Ball-Jrue Holiday backcourt, so that makes things a little bit complicated. They like some of the guys higher in the draft.”

In his second season with the Lakers, Ball averaged 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists while shooting 40.6 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from beyond the arc and 41.7 percent from the free-throw line. The Pelicans could throw Holiday at the two-guard spot and have a disruptive backcourt defensive duo with Ball and Holiday.

Ball has to become a better shooter moving forward, but that’s pretty much the only thing lacking in his game right now. Lonzo can get to the rim, finish in heavy traffic and see plays before they happen. Pairing Ball with Holiday would allow Holiday to just focus on scoring instead of having to get other guys involved on top of being the primary scoring option with AD gone.
