ESPN analyst Jay Williams is hearing that New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball could be used as a “trading asset” this offseason.

Ball really struggled during the bubble games and his subpar play was one of the main reasons the Pelicans didn't play well and missed the 2020 playoffs.

Ball finished his first season with the Pelicans with averages of 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.0 assists in 63 games. The former No. 2 overall pick shot 40.3 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 56.6 percent from the free-throw line in 32.1 minutes per contest.

In seven seeding games, Ball put up 7.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists. His shot at Disney World was worse than it was during the regular season. Ball shot 30.5 percent overall and 28.1 percent from the 3-point line in Orlando.

Ball is set to make $11,003,782 in 2020-21. The Pelicans fired head coach Alvin Gentry, so odds are they'll hire a head coach first before any roster transactions are made. While Ball is a stellar defender and passer, his lack of shooting skills is concerning since point guards in the NBA are usually the best shooters on their teams.

Since entering the NBA in 2017, Lonzo Ball is shooting 39.0 percent from the field, 34.1 percent from 3 and 48.7 percent from the free-throw line. Those are terrible shooting splits for a guard in the NBA.
