The heat that came after Kevin Durant decided to join the Golden State Warriors in Free Agency and abandon his old team seems to be calming down gradually. Most have accepted the decision and understand that they just have to live with it and moved forward. But that is definitely not the case for a lot of people back in Oklahoma, especially for the die hard Thunder fans. Kevin Durant remains a traitor for them and he did something that they can not forgive by going to a rival team. Thankfully for them, Russell Westbrook did extend his contract, so they can be assured that their new leader isn't going anywhere.

Every now and then, Thunder fans come up with a new idea expressing their disappointment and disagreement with Kevin's decision but this last one might be the funniest of them all. Fans have created a petition which has been rapidly growing in support. As of now, the number is reaching up to 800 supporters. What is that idea? To change the name of the City of Durant, OK to Westbrook, OK.

In their petition website they describe their reasoning as per Ryan Nazari:

Ladies and gentlemen, the great state of Oklahoma has been betrayed. As many of you know, Kevin Durant has left our state, torn out our hearts, and left our beloved Oklahoma City Thunder in depleted shape. All of this after even being offered a cabinet position for the State of Oklahoma. It is because of this heinous action that I believe the State of Oklahoma has a responsibility to change the name of the City of Durant to Westbrook, the man who is loyal, whom we believe in, and who will lead our team to glory. Yes, it is understood that the city Durant was not named after the evil Kevin Durant, but it is just another hideous reminder of what happened to our community. Support the Cause. #WestbrookOK

Despite their genuine disagreement with Kevin's decision, this petition is not an act meant to show any disrespect to the actual City of Durant and its' locals nor is it a truly serious attempt for change. It is just another humorous approach to tackle the whole situation and attract attention to their true “cause” which isn't against any city, but against Kevin Durant himself. All in all, whether people disagree with it or not, the pioneers of the petition deserve a recognition for their creativity and definitely made lots of people smile over this, whether they are Durant fans or haters.
