The Philadelphia Phillies take on the Washington Nationals for the start of a three game series Friday night. Below we will continue our MLB odds series as we hand out a Phillies-Nationals prediction and pick. We will also let you know how to watch the game.

The Phillies are 2-4 to begin this season, but that should not be something to worry about. Philadelphia struggled a bit to start the 2023 season, as well. They did just lose two of three to the Cincinnati Reds, but they have a chance to win a series this weekend against the Nationals.

The Nationals just lost the series to the Pirates, but they are playing a little better than the record shows. They have a pretty good offense, but their pitching has been subpar. CJ Abrams is seeming to have a breakout season, although it has only been six games. The Nationals should be able to play well in this weekend series.

Aaron Nola will get the start for the Phillies. Patrick Corbin will take the mound for Washington.

Why The Phillies Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Phillies should be able to get their offense going in this game. They are facing Patrick Corbin who tends to get very hittable. In his first start against the Cincinnati Reds, Corbin allowed four runs on seven hits, including two home runs. He also did not make it past five innings. Philadelphia has a great offense, so they should be able to see the ball well and get something going in this one.

Aaron Nola did not have a good start last week. However, I would not expect that to happen again. He pitched one game against Washington last season and allowed one run on five hits, and struck out six in that game. In fact, Nola has a 1.57 against the Nationals since 2022. He should be able to keep this going and dominate Washington Friday night.

Why The Nationals Will Cover The Spread/Win

Patrick Corbin does get a little hittable at times, but he pitched well against the Phillies last season. He did walk seven, but he did not allow an earned run through five innings of work in his one start against them last season. Corbin needs to be at his best in this game, as well. If he can keep the Phillies to just three runs, the Nationals will have a good chance to cover the spread.

Nola allowed 11 hits, two home runs, and seven runs against the Braves last week. The Braves do have a better lineup than the Nationals, but coming off a start like that is never easy. The Nationals have to hit early in the count and put the pressure on. If Nola has one of his bad starts, the Nationals will take advantage and cover this spread.

Final Phillies-Nationals Prediction & Pick

This could be a close game to begin the series. However, I have a lot more trust in Nola than Corbin. For this reason, I am going to take the Phillies to not only win this game, but cover the spread, as well.
