Andre Drummond is still one of the most talented centers in the NBA, and he just proved that today. The Detroit Pistons big man recorded 22 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks in a 114-80 victory over the Brooklyn Nets

Drummond became the first player with at least 20 points, 20 rebounds, and five assists through three quarters since Kevin Garnett in 2004.

In fact, over the last 20 seasons, only four players had at least three of these special outings — Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, DeMarcus Cousins, and now Drummond. Currently, the 7-foot big man is averaging 14.2 points, 14.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. He is also shooting a career-high 62 percent from the free throw line, compared to 38 percent last season for the Pistons.

Last season, Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy was critical about Drummond’s performances. In an Associated Press published on ESPN, he clarified that he wanted Drummond to play with “a sense of urgency.”

I think that he needs to have a sense of urgency to elevate his game. He’s been in the league five years now. He’s still young. He hasn’t turned 24. So he’s got time. He’s a very talented guy. He’s been one of the elite rebounders in the league. He’s got some great things to work with, but there’s more there. The sky is the limit for him.

In the Pistons’ win against the Nets, Drummond stepped up, playing like a man possessed in a game that he was born to play. Drummond is clearly one of the best rebounders in the NBA, but his scoring and playmaking throw opponents off balance.
