In today's NBA, there are numerous big men who are — or at least trying to — expand their shooting range. For example, during Brook Lopez's first eight seasons with the New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets, he only attempted 31 three-pointers. However, that quickly changed during the 2016-17 NBA season as he went 134-of-387 (34 percent) from beyond the arc.

After a disappointing season where he was not named an All-Star and failed to make the playoffs, Andre Drummond is looking for a bounce-back year with the Detroit Pistons. Along with being the team's leader, he may expand his range for the upcoming season according to Michael Lee of The Vertical:

Though he has averaged fewer than five threes a season for his career, Drummond hinted that he might expand his range for next season. “I worked really hard on my game this summer,” Drummond told The Vertical. “Shooting free throws with confidence. I’m taking shots with confidence now.”

Through five seasons, Drummond has been very limited offensively. While it is admirable he is looking to improve his game, he should focus on what he does best at a high level and improve his career 38.1 free throw percentage. If Drummond is able to accomplish both, he may be en route to his second All-Star appearance.

After making great strides under head coach Stan Van Gundy in his first two seasons, the Pistons took a step back and failed to make the playoffs. With some changes to the team's starting lineup, it will be up to Drummond to lead Detroit to the playoffs in the weak Eastern Conference.
