The YouTube TV app has finally reached the PlayStation 5.

PS5 finally gets a YouTube TV app

PS5 users will now be able to subscribe to the YouTube TV streaming service and watch their favorite channels without cable. This comes after a long and bitter fight between streaming device Roku and Google. This later led to Google pulling YouTube TV out of Roku. Roku users who also own the PS5 will be the least affected of this change.

While the PS5 is already months late in getting YouTube TV, it received it faster than the PS4 did. The previous-gen console only received YouTube TV support this January, years after launch. Meanwhile, both the Xbox Series X/S and the Xbox One console have had the service since launch.

YouTube TV allows users to watch cable channels on their streaming devices without the need for a cable network. For $64.99 a month, the service offers unlimited DVR cloud storage and access to over 85 networks. Some of the networks available for the service include ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, AMC, CNN, and Comedy Central. The service currently serves US subscribers only.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation 5 continues to be a very rare commodity. Sony itself anticipates the console's shortage well throughout 2021, citing issues related to supply. Some of the reasons behind the PS5 shortage also include its very profitable turnout for scalpers.
