Michael Sam is the first openly gay player to ever be drafted in the NFL. As such, it is only natural that people from in and around the league were particularly interested in what he has to say about the Jon Gruden situation with the Las Vegas Raiders. Sam recently delivered a strong message for everyone to hear as he also pointed out Carl Nassib's role in all of this.

Nassib is the first openly gay player that is currently active in the NFL. Incidentally, the 28-year-old defensive end is on the same team that is currently at the center of Gruden's leaked homophobic emails. This is exactly where Sam's thoughts are directed at right now:

“It’s unfortunate,’’ Sam said, via Josh Peter of USA TODAY. “especially that the first active gay player who’s playing is on the same team.”

Sam then went on to question how the Raiders (and the entire league as well, for that matter) have reacted to the situation in terms of showing their support for Nassib:

“So it almost seems like you know how the whole team would rally around (Nassib), but again, it almost seems like it was just for show. So are you really a part of it, or are you not?

“It’s moving in that direction (of acceptance), so if you’re not a part of it, you need to find another profession.’’

Football is a very masculine sport and it is this very reason why there are still some folks who struggle to be more inclusive when it comes to gay players in the NFL. Sam is having none of it, though, and he serves as a stern advocate for equality in this respect.
