Las Vegas Raider star quarterback Derek Carr has broken his silence amid the controversy surrounding now ex-Raiders head coach Jon Gruden. Carr has built a close personal relationship with Gruden, which is why the 30-year-old QB has come to the defense of his embattled coach.

Carr expressed how much he adores Gruden and how he hopes everyone is able to look past the controversy brought about by the misogynistic and homophobic leaked emails:

“Its hard because I love the man so much,” Carr said, via Levi Damien of Raiders Wire. “I have family members that have done things…I think more than anything coach needs people to love him…but at the same time what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong.”

While he appears to be offering his full support for the former Raiders shot-caller, Carr also made it abundantly clear that he detests Gruden's actions:

“I hate the action, but I love the person,” Carr said, via Vic Tafur of The Athletic.

Gruden resigned from his post as the Raiders head coach on Tuesday after the content of handful of his emails to former Washington Football general manager Bruce Allen were leaked. In said emails, Gruden used several inappropriate terms that have received a ton of backlash.

Carr himself is appalled by Gruden's actions, but he is calling for a bit of empathy for his beloved coach.
