The Los Angeles Rams received a huge boost to their secondary this week with the return of Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib off the injured reserve for the first time since undergoing ankle surgery earlier this season.

This has taken another major step forward as head coach Sean McVay indicated on Thursday morning that the expectation is that Talib should be able to give it a go for Sunday's game on the road against the Detroit Lions, according to Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network.

This is certainly the news that the Rams have long been waiting to receive as Talib's absence from their secondary has been quite noticeable as the team has had their fair share of struggles throughout the last several weeks with him being sidelined. The 32-year-old had stepped into the role as being their No. 1 cornerback through the first few weeks of the season, but with him out it has seen the Rams have plenty of issues in trying to cover the void left by Talib.

However, it should be noted that part of that may be due to him not being completely healthy from a calf injury that he suffered back in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Peters has been able to play in each game since then, but the return of Talib will allow him to get back into his role of being a big-play asset in the secondary as he has made his brief NFL career off that skill set.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles has struggled at times this season defensively against the pass as they currently rank 19th in the league along with being 27th with a 101.6 opposing quarterback passer rating. This will likely take some time to ease Talib back into the fold with him playing in limited snaps against the Lions, but his presence has the potential to be a pivotal boost for them in that regard defensively.
