After a thrilling playoff win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Los Angeles Rams are now set for the trilogy matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game.

As Rams head coach Sean McVay touched on during his post-game press conference following the victory of the Buccaneers in the NFC divisional round, he well expects this third encounter with the 49ers to be a notable challenge for his team.

“You really enjoy this and we got to get ready for a team that we know has been a really tough matchup for us,” McVay said. “They have done an outstanding job.

“It’s going to be a great game.”

It has been win-or-go-home for the 49ers ever since Week 18. They secured an overtime road win over the Rams in the final week of the regular season that clinched them a spot in the NFC wild-card round. Upset playoff wins over both the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers now have them in the NFC Championship game for the second time in three seasons.

The 49ers have had plenty of bragging rights over the Rams as of late, which include six straight wins in regular season play. The two teams are now ready to meet in the NFL playoffs for the first time since the 1989 campaign when longtime quarterback Joe Montana led the 49ers to a 30-3 win against the Rams in the NFC title game.

As McVay noted, it should be a quality contest between both NFC powerhouses next week.
