The Los Angeles Rams made a big splash tonight, signing pass-rusher Clay Matthews. Matthews announced the move himself on his Twitter, and the team's official Twitter page welcomed him not long after. They posted a video of Matthews from his high school football days in Los Angeles to welcome him back to the city where he grew up.

Matthews went on to play college ball at USC, where he starred for the Trojans and has deep roots in the city. He comes from a legendary football family, as his dad played at USC also and was a four-time Pro Bowler in the NFL. His grandfather also played in the NFL.
With the Rams still playing at the Coliseum for one more year, Matthews will play home games on the same field he played his college ball on. As Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported, Matthews turned down “more lucrative offers” from other teams in order to play in Los Angeles.
Two-year deal for LB Clay Matthews with the #Rams worth a max of $16.75 million, source says. He had more lucrative offers on the table but he just welcomed his third child and really wanted to play close to home. Plus, a shot at another ring doesn’t hurt.

Garafolo notes that Matthews just had another child, and wants to stay close to the family's home base in Southern California. Playing in Los Angeles is turning into a valuable recruiting tool for the Rams, as they just landed safety Eric Weddle in part so Weddle could be closer to his family in SoCal.
Matthews was a six-time Pro Bowler with the Packers, but it was clear his time in Green Bay was coming to an end when his production dipped yet again this past season. He spent the first ten years of his career in Green Bay, and the 32-year-old will now be looking to prove he still has something left in the tank with the Rams.
