Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald has been widely regarded by the masses as arguably the best player in the NFL. Regardless, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips feels he still has room to improve.

Donald is coming off a historic year that saw him be recognized as his peers as the best player in the league. Phillips still feels the sky is the limit for him moving forward:

“I can’t say enough superlatives about (DT) Aaron Donald. And he’s got some things he could work on, too. And he knows that. He made some plays where he’s standing – they’re handing off the ball in the backfield and he’s standing right in front of the guy and there’s two guys supposed to block him. I think the neatest thing is his peers rating him the best player in the league. I think that shows you. I think the coaches all vote the same way. Certainly, I would. He’s an amazing talent and he works hard at it and it’s great to have him in camp.”

The prospect of Donald having room to improve is certainly a scary thought for the rest of the league. He fell just two sacks short of the NFL's single-season record en route to earning his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award in the 2018 campaign. However, it is clear that he and those around him are not looking to rest on their merits just yet.

Donald will have his work cut out trying to top the kind of performance he enjoyed last year. Then again, he has seemingly made a habit out of finding ways to improve with each season. It will be interesting to see if Phillips can help Donald find a way to not only break the record but finish the job after falling short in the Super Bowl last year.
