In the days heading into Week 16 action against the Arizona Cardinals, there have been questions concerning Los Angeles Rams star running back Todd Gurley's status for the contest.

Gurley has been dealing with a nagging issue that has prevented him from practicing this week through Thursday. According to Rich Hammond of The Orange County Register, the Pro Bowler believes that he will be good to go for  Sunday's game but doesn't plan to practice on Friday.

Although Gurley won't be in practice in any compacity during the week, the fact that he voiced that he will play against the Cardinals is an encouraging sign. The Rams are likely to take the precautionary approach with Gurley, given his importance to their offensive game plan as a key piece to the puzzle. Los Angeles doesn't want to risk him suffering any setbacks, especially prior to the start of the playoffs.

This is something that head coach Sean McVay has already acknowledged this week as he stated that he doesn't want to put Gurley's playoff availability in jeopardy in any fashion. This may have been another reason why the team chose to bring aboard veteran running back C.J. Anderson to not only help ease the workload on him in the running game but also serve as the fill-in starter for him if he were not able to play against the Cardinals.

The Rams are currently in a bit of a tough spot with their hopes of securing the top overall seed in the NFC for the playoffs while their hopes of securing a first-round playoff bye also hang in the balance. All of this still places a great deal of importance on the final two games of the season. Nonetheless, the Rams will handle this situation with Gurley depending on his how he feels over the next couple of days before deciding if he will be on the field on Sunday afternoon.
