Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse says point guard Fred VanVleet could return to the lineup this weekend.

VanVleet is dealing with a hamstring injury and jammed finger:

The Raptors are 24-14 on the season. They are in the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

In 22 games this season, Fred VanVleet is averaging 18.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists. He’s shooting 39.4 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from beyond the arc and 84.7 percent from the free-throw line.

VanVleet projects to be one of the NBA’s most coveted unrestricted free agents during the 2020 offseason. The Raptors will be careful with him moving forward since it’s a long regular season.

Now 25, VanVleet re-signed with the Raptors in 2018 on a two-year, $18 million deal. Toronto signed Kyle Lowry to a one-year, $31 million extension before the season started. Some, though, believe Toronto will make VanVleet the primary guard soon since Lowry is getting older.

VanVleet went undrafted out of Wichita State in 2016. He’s an NBA champion and one of the most underrated players in the NBA today.

The Raptors just got back small forward Pascal Siakam, who missed time with a groin ailment. He put up 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in his first game back against the San Antonio Spurs while shooting 35.3 percent from the floor.
