It has been an interesting free agency period for shooting guard Dion Waiters. The Oklahoma City Thunder originally extended a qualifying offer and made him a restricted free agent. But since then, Kevin Durant bolted to the Golden State Warriors and the Thunder acquired Victor Oladipo from the Orlando Magic. Because of this, the Thunder rescinded the qualifying offer and made Waiters an unrestricted free agent.

Some teams showed initial interested in Waiters, and according to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Brooklyn Nets were one of the teams who had face to face discussions with Waiters when he was a restricted free agent. But, they elected not to sign him to a contract.

Waiters definitely carries value and should find himself on a roster before the season begins. He averaged 9.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and two assists per game for the Thunder last season. The Nets are obviously an intriguing option for Waiters given their lack of talent across the board, especially at the guard position. It would not be surprising to see the Nets try to negotiate with Waiters again given that their offer sheet to Tyler Johnson was matched by the Miami Heat.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Waiters. He has a natural ability to score the basketball but has an unpredictable personality and his play has been inconsistent. The Syracuse product should be expected to be signed to a team before the season on a small deal in which he can prove his worth for a future free agency period.
