Houston Rockets guards James Harden and Chris Paul reportedly went nearly two months without speaking to each other during the regular season, according to Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports.
The relationship between Harden and Paul has soured very quickly. The Rockets' brain trust is reportedly trying to move Paul this summer in an attempt to clean up the toxic environment behind the scenes.
The backcourt mates went nearly two months without speaking to each other during the season, sources said, creating a tenuous environment for teammates and everyone involved with the franchise.
Harden hasn’t returned Paul’s repeated attempts at communicating this offseason, sources said, after a year in which the pair repeatedly got under each other’s skin with petty acts in practices and games.
What a difference just one year can make. In 2017-18, Paul and Harden meshed perfectly on the court. The Rockets had the best record in the NBA and Harden won the MVP award. Houston lost to the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference Finals. Many believe if Paul didn't hurt his hamstring in Game 5, the Rockets would have won the series.
This season was much different for the two All-Stars. Harden had one of the highest usage rates in NBA history. Paul reportedly got frustrated with just watching Harden dribble the life out of the ball on every possession. At this point, the Rockets might have to trade Paul as soon as possible, knowing they won't get fair value in return since CP3's contract is horrendous.
