The Washington Redskins are among the handful of teams that are undergoing a rebuild in the NFL. Contrary to what most people believe, Ron Rivera anticipates Washington's rebuild to happen sooner rather than later.

“The turnaround can be a little bit quicker than expected, at least I expected,” Rivera said, via the Washington Post.

Just a season ago, the Redskins tallied a 3-13 record, finishing with the second-worst record in the NFL. As a result, Washington was awarded the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Of course, the Redskins couldn't afford to pass on Chase Young, selecting the surefire Ohio State edge rusher.

Besides Young, Washington notably added Antonio Gibson, Saahdiq Charles, and Antonio Gandy-Golden in this year's draft. After the team's impressive haul in the draft, Rivera believes he may have a better roster than he envisioned of having.

On the defensive side of the ball, with the addition of Young, the Redskins have an array of talented players. Therefore, Rivera isn't crazy for thinking the team should take a huge step forward in 2020. However, it remains to be seen what Washington's offense looks like next season.

Without a doubt, the Redskins will only go as far as Dwayne Haskins can take them. If Haskins can improve immensely in his second season, Washington could surprise some people in 2020.

Earlier this offseason, Rivera exclaimed that turning around the Redskins wasn't going to be an easy task. While he understands it is still going to take some time, Rivera is optimistic that the team will see success in the near future.
