Through the last several months, the relationship between New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick has continued to be one of the driving points of scrutiny around the franchise.

This has remained a topic of conversation for much of this season despite the team's continued success on the field despite all the noise that has surrounded the situation. That said, Jeff Darlington of ESPN is reporting that lines of communication from both Belichick and Brady have been quite fluid and healthy. (h/t Ryan Hannable of WEEI)

“I have had a number of conversations with people closely involved with the relationship between Bill Belichick and Tom Brady and then I come out here [to the field in Miami] about 90 minutes ago and we see Belichick and Brady on the field right behind me having this exchange that puts it all into perfect words,” he said Sunday on NFL Countdown. “Basically what is happening here, a year ago there was strain on this relationship, there were issues between Belichick and Brady, they were on-going. But now, suddenly, something has changed. Based on the conversations that I have had, there has been no watershed moment, but suddenly these two guys are communicating better and getting along this year.

“As one person put it, ‘they are vibing much more.’ It got to a point where it wouldn’t have lasted this year if it went like it did last year. Better communication. He’s treating Tom more like a 41-year-old man.”

This is an encouraging sign given that it is well-documented that there had been some sort of lingering friction between both sides. The fact that they are each talking to each other to a greater extent shows the improvements that the situation has had that could be for the betterment of the team for the long haul.

That said, this something that Belichick an Brady have each been able to work through for years to continue to have success on the field. It does ease any tension that may have been around the situation, but it will continue to draw attention given their long history together in New England.

It is simply an interesting side note as the Patriots head into the final three weeks of the regular season and into the playoffs.
