The Saints Row reboot was revealed yesterday at Gamescom, with a trailer showcasing the franchise's new direction. This new direction for the franchise has caused a division between the game's fanbase, prompting some strong responses from the game's official Twitter account:

Comments on social media about the Saints Row reboot have been largely divided. There's a great amount of clamor fr0m old fans upset at what the new game appears to be based on the trailer:

Plenty of fans have also reacted to the trailer by looking for a well-loved character, Jonny Gat. These come alongside comments on the trailer making it feel too akin to Fortnite, despite it not showing any gameplay. Additionally, the main crew's designs have also drawn flak for being “generic” or “not looking like gangsters.”

It appears that a lot of fans were hoping for the series to continue in the same vein as the first two Saints Row games and are now disappointed. Currently, the game's trailer on Youtube has more than 31,000 dislikes and around 18,000 likes.

However, there do appear to be some fans looking forward to the Saints Row reboot as well, with some “just happy Saints Row is back.” It also won two Gamescom awards – one for Best Announcement, and another for Best Trailer.

We won't know whether the current backlash will reflect in the final product. There also hasn't been much extensive gameplay shown yet, so counting the game out might be a bit premature. Guess we'll find out when the game releases next year on February 25. It'll be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC.
