Hall of Fame NBA forward Scottie Pippen announced Monday the tragic death of his eldest son, Antron, who died Sunday at the age of 33.

The Chicago Bulls legend revealed Antron suffered from chronic asthma, though the cause of death was not stated:

“Antron suffered from chronic asthma and if he hadn’t had it, I truly believe he would've made it to the NBA,” Pippen tweeted. “He never let that get him down, though—Antron stayed positive and worked hard, and I am so proud of the man that he became.”

Antron was born on Dec. 29, 1987 to Scottie Pippen and his first wife, Karen McCollum.

The eldest Pippen child played college basketball at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) before joining the Upstate Heat of the World Basketball Association (WBA).

Antron also spent time at South Georgia Technical College, with the Jets tweeting their condolences to the Pippen family:

According to Marie Claire, Antron had made his home in the Atlanta area as of late:

He may have never made it to the NBA like his dad, but he currently plays for a local team in Atlanta, the city where he works as a machine technician at a lab. He looks to be pretty quiet online.

The news comes shortly after Scotty Pippen Jr. declared for the upcoming NBA Draft while still retaining collegiate eligibility at Vanderbilt.
