Who needs Cam Newton? Why not the Seattle Seahawks?

Newton is one of the hottest commodities in the free agency pool of the league right now. The 2015 NFL MVP was released earlier this year by the Carolina Panthers after an injury-laden couple of seasons seemed to prove that Newton was falling out of his prime. The 2011 Rookie of the Year still has a lot in his tank and teams looking for a solid quarterback should keep an eye out for the free agent. Which team – perhaps the Seattle Seahawks. Field Yates of ESPN reports:

In April 2019, the Seahawks re-signed starting quarterback Russel Wilson for a $140 million contract throughout the 2023 season, making Wilson the highest paid player in the league. Wilson has proved that he can lead the team, playing for the franchise for eight seasons now and never missing a game. He has also brought the Seattle-based squad to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances early in his career with a win in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Seahawks also beefed up their roster, signing undrafted free agent Anthony Gordon after the 2020 NFL Draft. The 23-year old had a solid final season with the Washington State University, throwing a total of 48 touchdowns (second to none other than 2020 first overall pick Joe Burrow) before being signed by Seattle.

With these two quarterbacks leading the realm, it would still make sense for the franchise to have some sort of insurance in the QB position by signing Cam Newton. Newton, who just turned 31 yesterday, has a track record that proves deserves a spot in any franchise, even as a backup.
