The Seattle Seahawks under Pete Carroll predicate themselves on running the ball and playing stingy defense. After facing him in practice, Duane Brown believes the Seahawks defense with Jadeveon Clowney is “scary.”

Per Curtis Crabtree in NBC Sports' ProFootballTalk:

“It’s scary, man,” Brown said. “It’s scary. Obviously Clowney and Ziggy (Ansah) on the edge. Poona Ford I think is going to be a star in this league. We get (Jarran) Reed back. Bobby (Wagner) and K.J. (Wright) have been staples on this defense and in the league for a long time playing at a high level. (Mychal) Kendricks is a very, very great athlete. Also someone that can rush the passer when asked to.

Last week, the Seahawks were able to acquire Clowney in a trade with the Houston Texans to strengthen their pass-rushing unit in 2019. Similarly to Clowney, Brown was also traded to Seattle from the Texans during a contract dispute with the organization.

As for Clowney, he joins a defensive front that includes Ezekiel Ansah, Poona Ford, and Jarran Reed. Reed will begin the season on a six-game suspension stemming from an incident from 2017.  Along with their defensive line, they boast a linebacking corps that includes All-Pro Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright.

Despite the Reed suspension, the Seahawks are still expected to have a formidable defense that can get to the quarterback and make plays. In the past two seasons, Clowney has accumulated 18.5 sacks, 37 tackles for loss, 42 quarterback hits, and three forced fumbles.

After being the 16th ranked defense in 2018, the Seahawks defense has the potential to be one of the NFL's best groups this year.
