The Seattle Seahawks acquired pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney in a trade with the Houston Texans this past weekend, a deal that certainly made Clowney happy, as the Seahawks were one of his two preferred landing spots.

It turns out that Seattle had been pursuing Clowney for several months, and throughout the process, offensive lineman Duane Brown was a big help, as he and Clowney had an hour-long phone conversation in which Brown sold Clowney on the franchise and the city.

Remember: Brown and Clowney were once teammates in Houston, so Brown knows Clowney pretty well:

“Without question, Duane helped us through the process in making us know who we're dealing with and the player he used to practice against and his capabilities, potential habits, background, family,” said Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, according to Brady Henderson of ESPN.com. “We really had a lot of insights because of Duane.”

Seattle didn't have to cough up much to land Clowney, sending linebackers Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin along with a third-round draft pick to the Texans in exchange for the three-time Pro Bowler.

Clowney is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he registered 47 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown, en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by Houston with the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

The Seahawks will get to see Clowney in action on Sunday when they host the Cincinnati Bengals in their season opener.
