Yesterday, former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Malik McDowell took to Twitter to address the rumors that the team was suing McDowell in order to get his signing bonus back after the player was unable to play thanks to an injury that he suffered during an ATV accident before the start of the 2017 NFL training camp.

According to McDowell via Seahawks Wire, he was given the green light to play football by Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher, who McDowell claims to be one of the best neurologists in the world.

After being drafted by the Seahawks, McDowell suffered an accident driving an ATV before training camp, and the Seahawks doctors never medically cleared the young player to participate in football activities.

McDowell spent his entire career on the non-football injury list, and was eventually released by the Seahawks at the end of last season.

In a series of tweets after, McDowell goes on to say that the Seahawks had their own reasoning for keeping him off of the field, which seems to suggest he believes the injury was not part of the issue.

The Seahawks have yet to comment on the issue or the lawsuit itself, so it appears as if the team is opting to go down the quiet route regarding the issue.

After selecting McDowell in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, McDowell was given a signing bonus of about $1.6 million, and was ordered to repay $800,000 by an arbitrator in February.

From the looks of it, it seems as if McDowell has yet to pay the team back, which has caused the Seahawks to begin looking to remedy this issue by any means.
