The Seattle Seahawks are now officially 0-1 in games started by anyone but Russell Wilson within the past 10 NFL seasons.

With their headline quarterback remaining sidelined, Seattle become one of the teams linked to potentially signing recently vaccinated free agent Cam Newton.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks have indeed reached out to Cam Newton. However, head coach Pete Carroll has downplayed the talks as anything but exploratory.

Via Pelissero:

“Pete Carroll said that on the radio yesterday that they have made contact with Cam Newton, among others. And Pete explained it – they always do this. They talk to everyone that they think can help them. My understanding is the Seahawks will keep tabs on Cam Newton but nothing has materialized here. They are putting their faith in Geno Smith. He will start again on Monday night against the Saints.”

Any quarterback signing made by the Seahawks would simply be a stopgap measure as they anxiously await the return of Russell Wilson. As someone who isn't at all used to missing games, Wilson has been doing all he can to get back on the field sooner rather than later.

Cam Newton has also made it clear that he is weighing several options to determine the best possible situation going forward. Joining a Seahawks team that has a clear QB1 doesn't exactly seem like the most enticing opportunity for him as he seeks a more stable role on a new NFL squad.
