Waiting for Ben Simmons to play this season has been as excruciating as a root canal for the fans of the Philadelphia 76ers. Or even worse, in fact. But a silver lining has appeared recently amid the cloudy issue.

It looks like Simmons has walked back on his previous decision to reject help from the Sixers regarding his mental health. According to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the controversial guard has met with a medical specialist recommended by the team.

It is unclear what Monday's meeting means for the Sixers' ultimate hopes of a Simmons return to play, but it was a change of direction for Simmons in his dealings with the organization.

It's definitely a welcome development for Sixers fans, who've grown tired of Simmons' antics. A few days ago, he was personally approached by Sixers general manager Daryl Morey, pleading with the All-Star playmaker to suit up. Simmons, however, said he still wasn't mentally ready.

But more pessimistic Sixers fans could view Simmons' latest move as a step to him getting traded. Getting a clearance from a doctor regarding his mental health would surely make him more enticing to other teams. Rumors have swirled that the Boston Celtics are considering trading for Simmons in exchange for fellow All-Star Jaylen Brown.

With the Sixers already depleted without Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris, Simmons can surely help. In the meantime, it's good to know he's headed toward the right direction with his latest decision.
