The Philadelphia 76ers are set to face Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets on Friday in what is going to be one of the most important games of their regular season. Unsurprisingly, though, all eyes are still on Ben Simmons as the drama surrounding his situation with the Sixers continues to rage on.

There is expected to be a significant development on the Simmons saga on Friday with ESPN's NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that the All-Star point guard is set to sit down with the Sixers brass prior to their matchup against the Nets:

As with all these new reports coming out pertaining to this intense stand-off, there is again so much to unpack here. By the sound of the report, it looks like the Sixers are still being optimistic about Simmons. Do they actually believe that this meeting could potentially resolve everything between the organization and their want-away star?

It was earlier reported that Simmons has been ruled out indefinitely because of a back issue and also because he is not “mentally prepared” to play. The Sixers also slapped Simmons with a one-game suspension for actions that are detrimental to the team. However, they are now hoping that he rejoins his teammates ahead of one of the biggest games of the season. It is clear that Simmons wants nothing to do with the Sixers right now, so why bring him back when he can pontentially serve as an unwanted distraction for the other players on the squad?

Whatever the case may be, what is clear here is that this problem doesn't look like it's going to be fixed anytime soon.
