The Philadelphia 76ers have gone through drastic roster transformation over the past two seasons, so much that there are only two players left from their 2017-18 season roster. According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid are the only remnants of the Sixers' 2017-18 team. The 2017-18 76ers squad actually fared well, as they finished with a 52-30 record and reached the second round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs.

The following season, the Sixers made a huge gamble on Jimmy Butler, who was then a disgruntled star in Minnesota. Philadelphia sent Jerryd Bayless, Robert Covington, and Dario Saric to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Jimmy Butler and Justin Patton.

Before the trade deadline in February, the Sixers also parted ways with Markelle Fultz, who was sent to the Orlando Magic. JJ Redick and TJ McConnell also became free agents this summer, and both of them left Philadelphia. Redick agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, while McConnell committed to the Indiana Pacers.

The Sixers will feature a new-look starting five next season. Tobias Harris, who was acquired in a trade before the deadline last season, will return. The Sixers will likely start Josh Richardson, who was part of the sign-and-trade deal that brought Butler to the Miami Heat. Philadelphia also added free-agent power forward Al Horford.
