Markelle Fultz has yet to live up to the hype of a first overall pick. In fact, the Philadelphia 76ers guard had one of the oddest rookie seasons in recent memory. He lost his shot and suffered through shoulder problems that caused him to miss a majority of his rookie year.

He's fully healthy now and the Sixers hope he can overcome his early struggles. Unfortunately, his opening night wasn't anything to write home about. Fultz scored five points, going 2-for-7 from the floor. None of those seven shots came from behind the arc. Additionally, Fultz spent a majority of the second half on the bench.

But his coach isn't too concerned about Fultz moving forward. He expects to see steady progress.

“Markelle is going to have steady, slow growth,” Brown told Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo Sports. “Sometimes he’s going to be just incredible. Other times he’s going to be part of the NBA at a very young age on a pretty good team.”

Fultz's shot is still somewhat of a mystery, but it's something he is continuing to improve. It might not come back overnight, but one of his coaches believes the Sixers guard is on the right track.

“He’s going to figure it out,” Drew Hanlen, Fultz’s shot architect, said in a text to Yahoo Sports. “He’s come a long way. Worked harder than anyone I’ve ever had before to get back. It’ll come. Just takes time.”

One game isn't enough to have Sixers fans overly concerned, but Fultz's development will be something that will be an ongoing storyline all year in Philly.
