Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro guard David DeCastro is unsure about whether or not his broken hand will allow him to play in Week 3. The Steelers take on the piping hot Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Monday night, but DeCastro is taking things one day at a time before he announces when he expects to return.

From Joe Rutter of Triblive.com:

“I think it’s one of those things where they don’t tell you (the timetable) on purpose so I can just keep hoping that I’m going to play and trick myself into (thinking I’m) playing,” DeCastro said. “They never told me it’s going to be three week, it’s going to be one week, it’s going to be 10 weeks.

DeCastro didn't play in his team's 42-37 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in week 2. He sustained his injury in their season opener against the Cleveland Browns. After toughing out the Browns game, DeCastro as made sure to rest and wrap his hand so his condition doesn't worsen.

“We have a good staff. They’re not worrying about it. They’re being smart. I want to get back out there as much as possible. This is abnormal to me,” said DeCastro.

Even without DeCastro, Ben Roethlisberger threw for 452 yards and three touchdowns against the Chiefs. Nevertheless, DeCastro makes their offense significantly better. The 6-foot-5 316 lb Stanford product was selected No. 24 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. He was named a Pro Bowler in each of his last three seasons.

If the Steelers' staff decides DeCastro isn't ready to go, his replacement, B.J. Finney, will have to hold down the fort for another week.
