Ever since his tragic spinal injury back in early December, Pittsburgh Steelers star linebacker Ryan Shazier has continued to put in lots of hard work at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex in order to gradually improve his condition.

Despite the odds stacked against him to fully recover from such a heartbreaking injury, Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert says that there is one thing he does not see out of Shazier, according to an article written on Thursday by Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“Never once has he said ‘Why me?’ ” Colbert said during an interview on Thursday. “I know that’s an uplifting gesture for us and those who deal with him. He shows us everybody has problems but he’s going to work to overcome his as we should ours.”

After he was injured on Dec. 4 while making a tackle in a game against the rival Cincinnati Bengals, Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery 10 days later. Colbert says that the linebacker puts in serious work daily at the team facility before he attends meetings.

“He’s here on a daily basis,” Colbert said. “He does some physical workouts in the morning and he either sits in with the coaches or he sits in with us. He’s learning some personnel stuff, just to keep him involved with us, then he goes and does his rehab at a rehab facility.”

Shazier was most recently spotted in public at a Pittsburgh Penguins game seated in a private box, where he received a massive standing ovation from the crowd and was able to stand up himself to show his appreciation for all of the support.
