Despite the unforgiving media roast that Stephen Curry‘s “Chef” colorway of the Curry 2 Low sneakers received during the playoffs, the shoes were actually a massive success as they sold out soon after release.

Many fans expected Curry to wear the shoes at some point during the Golden State Warriors‘ playoff run, but the back-to-back MVP was never seen wearing them at all during the NBA Finals.

According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the reason was preventable measures:

“He revealed for the first time Saturday that he was ready to wear them for Game 4, but was talked out of it by Warriors general manager Bob Myers and his agent Jeff Austin, who were concerned about the low cut given Curry's history of ankle issues.”

That was a wise move by Myers and Austin, given not only the history of injuries that plagued Curry early in his career, but the two injuries he was nursing during the course of last season's playoffs.

While Under Armour was likely disappointed that its star player wasn't able to wear the Chef shoes at a time of such high visibility, the Internet did all the promotion needed to make the shoe release a success.

Guess who's laughing their way to the bank now?
