Stephon Marbury is currently in New York and recently held a Q&A with incoming students of NYU. He was able to answer a lot of questions thrown at him, and even touched base with the success he’s had in China, playing in the CBA. However, one genuine moment during the session caught the attention of many, as it was surprising and full of emotions.

The 40-year-old Georgia Tech product shared a hug with the school’s freshman, Sheng Kang Zhou, who grew up in China’s capital, and is a fan of the team he played for, the Beijing Ducks. When asked why he couldn’t stop crying during that time, Marbury explained to the Associated Press via Fox Sports, that it just came naturally, as winning a championship for the team meant a lot to him.

”I had no clue. I couldn’t stop crying,” Marbury said of meeting Sheng . ”I know how he feels, and he’s sharing the feeling of how happy he is. It goes to show the level of respect and love that comes from winning championships. Being a New Yorker, it’s like if the Knicks won a championship for the first time.”

After playing 13 seasons in the NBA, Starbury decided to take his talents to China, where he had a lot of success. He is widely considered one of the best foreign players to ever play in the CBA, and has become a legend of the sport in the country. He is a three-time league champion, a foreign MVP, finals MVP, and has been named an All-Star six times.

With this coming season being his last, Marbury will go down as the gold standard for every foreign player that will play in China in the future. He may not be playing professionally next year anymore, but he is expected to still be active around basketball, which he also confirmed in the interview.

”Basketball is my life and I definitely will still be involved with it,” Marbury said.
