The Connecticut Sun have been the top team in the WNBA this season with a perfect 9-0 record. They're the only team in the league that has yet to lose a game. There's probably not much to change about the Sun roster with a record like that, but the team felt the need to upgrade their backup point guard position. The Sun announced on Wednesday that they had added Veronica Burton their roster. In order to clear up a roster spot, the Sun also announced that they had waived backup big Queen Egbo.

Veronica Burton comes to the Sun after having spent the past two seasons with the Dallas Wings. Burton was the No. 7 overall pick by the Wings in the 2022 WNBA Draft. She was cut by the Wings this year following the conclusion of training camp. Last year she appeared in 40 games for the Wings including 13 starts. She averaged 2.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Queen Egbo was acquired by the Sun in a trade with the Washington Mystics prior to the start of the season. The Sun sent the rights to Bernadett Hater and a 2025 second round pick the Mystics in the deal.

Egbo was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever. She played one full season for the Fever before they traded her to the Mystics ahead of the 2023 WNBA Trade Deadline. Egbo appeared in only three games for the Sun this season averaging 0.7 points and 0.7 rebounds.

Sun look like the best team in the WNBA

With a few weeks of the 2024 regular season gone by, the Sun look head and shoulders above the rest of the WNBA. It is worth mentioning that out of the four other top teams in the league in the Minnesota Lynx, Las Vegas Aces, Seattle Storm and New York Liberty, the Sun have only played the Lynx whom they beat by a single point, 83-82, in overtime.

Their next game is against the Liberty who are directly behind them in the Eastern Conference standings at 8-2. It will be a good measuring test for the Sun.

During the offseason, the Sun managed to re-sign key players in DeWanna Bonner and Brionna Jones. They also added veterans Tiffany Mitchell and Moriah Jefferson. Mitchell was acquired in a trade with the Lynx in exchange for Natisha Hiedeman while Jefferson was acquired in a trade with the Phoenix Mercury for Rebecca Allen.

But at the center of the Sun roster is Alyssa Thomas who finished in the top three in the MVP voting last season. Thomas has carried that momentum over to this season. A triple-double threat, she's been averaging 13.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.3 steals with splits of 47.1 percent shooting from the field and 66 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The Sun's top scorer this season though has been Bonner who is averaging 19.1 points. That's the third highest mark for her career. Last season, the Sun advanced to the second round of the WNBA playoffs where they fell to the Liberty in four games.
