Although the Washington Redskins are in the midst of another disappointing season, there has been a silver lining in the 2019 season and his name is Terry McLaurin. The rookie receiver was able to get into the end zone twice on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, but while his name might be recognizable now, that wasn't the case on draft night.

In his senior season at Ohio State, McLaurin caught 35 balls for 701 yards and 11 touchdowns, all of which coming off the arm of the Redskins first-round draft pick Dwayne Haskins. Although having solid stats coming out of college, McLaurin wasn't seen as a first or second-rounder.

In fact, the Redskins were only implored to pick McLaurin in the third round because of Haskins asking the team to get one of “his guys”. One could say the rookie has outplayed Washington's highest expectations catching 23 balls for 408 yards and five touchdowns in five games so far this season.

In what was classified as a poor receiving class coming into the 2019 NFL draft, teams still saw 12 receivers they thought were better than McLaurin. It is safe to say that McLaurin has proven to be a first-round talent as he has become the Redskins' number one wideout. On a team that lacks offensive weapons, McLaurin has made his case into being one of Washington's building blocks for the future.

Opposing teams know there is really only one offensive threat on the Redskins roster and still couldn't contain McLaurin. While Dwayne Haskins' debut did not go as Washington fans expected, McLaurin has taken the excitement that Haskins was supposed to bring.

His two touchdowns on Sunday were the only times Washington was able to get into the end zone as they were able to squeak out their first victory on the season against a lowly Miami Dolphins squad.

With Bill Callahan serving as the teams interim head coach after letting Jay Gruden go, we will see just how often they turn to McLaurin in the coming weeks as they will face prominent teams in the 49ers and the Vikings.

They should get him involved in any way they can as the more McLaurin touches the ball, the greater the Redskins chances are at success.

One thing is for sure, no one is sleeping on Terry McLaurin anymore.
