Veteran quarterback Josh McCown made history when—at age 41—he became the oldest player signed to a practice squad and now he's joining the Houston Texans.

Just about halfway through the year, McCown has already made his way back to another roster .Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the Texans have signed McCown from the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad.

It is unknown whether there is a specific injury or onus for the move, but McCown will join Houston's active roster.

McCown might have been a candidate to play for the “other” team in Texas. The Dallas Cowboys still have a fluid quarterback situation ahead of this weekend's showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and perhaps McCown would have been an upgrade under center.

The Texan has played the role of backup for a number of teams throughout his NFL career, most recently with the New York Jets in 2018 and Eagles last year. McCown was actually pressed into starting duty late in the year, though he failed to earn a single victory.

Houston is in desperate need of something positive heading into the second half. The Texans come out of the bye week at 1-6, and it would take something of a miracle for them to climb back into the playoff race. Not to mention, this is a team still in transition after the firing of former head coach and general Bill O'Brien.

However, the Texans actually stood mostly pat at the deadline, despite indications they would be full-blown sellers.

Perhaps Houston feels the season—somehow—can still be salvaged, with McCown there to supply leadership and energy down the stretch.
