Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil has performed well in his first season with the team. However, he does have some things to work on, specifically, his timing.

On Sunday, referees caught Tunsil for three false starts in Houston's 38-24 loss to the Denver Broncos. With that number accounted for, he leads the NFL in such penalties, with 12, per The Football Database.

Tunsil believes he has a target on his back as he alluded to after the loss. “I got a target on my back, bullsh– calls,” said the 25-year-old in the locker room, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien calls the false start issues something he needs to fix. Said O'Brien post-game:

“Laremy, he's played very well, but he's had too many penalties. He would be the first to tell you that. I think nobody feels worse about that than him. He's a great guy. He's a great player, but we've got to fix it.”

The Texans traded for Tunsil — a first-round pick in 2016 — on Aug. 31. They sent two first-round picks, a 2020 second-round pick and change to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the left tackle and wide receiver Kenny Stills. It was a historic trade package.

Tunsil has played the part of an elite left tackle in Houston. However, his false start tendencies are not only frustrating, but they are also concerning. Far too often, the Texans have gotten themselves in a deeper hole due to his lack of proper timing with the team. Perhaps more snaps taken with Deshaun Watson will cure those issues.
