Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson put forth a dominant game against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, leading his team to a 41-25 victory. Watson threw four touchdowns and zero interceptions as part of his tour de force performance.

Watson’s effort drew praise from fellow superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes:

Watson certainly was special against Detroit. He completed 17 out of 25 pass attempts for 318 yards. The quarterback also rushed the ball eight times for 24 yards.

Will Fuller was on the end of several big passes from Watson. The Texans wide receiver hauled in six passes for 171 yards, with two long touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Brandin Cooks also had five catches for 85 yards, with a long reception of 27. Duke Johnson added three catches for 43 yards, with the bulk of those coming on a 33-yard touchdown catch.

While the Texans are just 4-7 on the season, they’ve now won three of their last four games after a disastrous 1-6 start. Watson has been terrific all season, tossing 24 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He has thrown for 3,201 yards.

Watson has performed well despite a good amount of turmoil in Houston. DeAndre Hopkins was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in the offseason, and Bill O’Brien was ultimately canned because of the bad start.

As for Mahomes, he’s preparing for a showdown against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon. Mahomes has been even better than Watson for the 9-1 Chiefs, throwing for 3,035 yards, 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He’s a leading MVP candidate at this point in the season.

While Mahomes is already on a GOAT trajectory with an MVP and a Super Bowl victory under his belt, Watson is also one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The Texans star showed just that on Thanksgiving.
