In Episode 5 of Star Wars: The Acolyte titled “Night,” a Kylo Ren/the Knights of Ren hint was dropped. The character was played by Adam Driver in the recent sequel movie trilogy. Could he be returning to the fold?

During one moment in the episode, Qimir (Manny Jacinto) comes across a fallen body. “What extraordinary beings we are,” he says as he uses Force powers to save the character.

While this is happening, Kylo Ren's theme from the Star Wars movies can be heard. John Williams did not compose the score for The Acolyte — Michael Abels took over the role — but it is possible that they reused it or simply re-recorded the exact cue.

Social media weighs in

Either way, this sent social media into a frenzy. The popular theory is that this could be setting Qimir up to be the first Knight of Ren.

“This is undoubtedly a Knights of Ren origin story,” one X user pointed out. “Qimir says, ‘The Jedi like you would call me Sith,' but he doesn't say he is.

“Also, the fact Kylo Ren's theme music plays in this episode makes it painfully obvious [that] this is the case,” they continued.

Another user showed the similarities between Qimir and Ren (the leader of the Knights of Ren before Kylo). “Burnt arms…a single gauntlet…mask….Kylo Ren theme…..Y[‘]ALL LOCK IN,” the caption read with photos comparing the two.

Remember, the Knights of Ren were a group of warriors led by Kylo Ren during the Galactic Civil War. They were briefly introduced in The Force Awakens and reappear in The Rise of Skywalker. Kylo, now going by Ben Solo, helps Rey (Daisy Ridley) defeat the Knights of Ren.

Their early stages were not explored in the movies. Perhaps The Acolyte is setting the stage for the origins of the group. Maybe that could even lead to a young Ben Solo in the group as well down the line.

What is The Acolyte about?

Star Wars: The Acolyte is the latest Disney+ series in a galaxy far, far away. The series is set at the end of the High Republic era — a century before the events of The Phantom Menace — and depicts a Jedi Master investigating a slew of crimes.

Amandla Stenberg stars in the series playing the dual role of twins Osha and Mae. Lee Jung-jae, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne-Moss, and Manny Jacinto also star in the series.

The Acolyte was created by Leslye Headland, who serves as the showrunner and an executive producer. She wrote and directed the premiere episode and also directed the second. She is best known for co-creating Netflix's Russian Doll with Natasha Lyonne and Amy Poehler.

Disney+ premiered the first two episodes of The Acolyte on June 4, 2024. Episodes drop every Tuesday through July 16.
