Movie studios just can't seem to stay away from adapting successful video games. The Division joined the long line of franchises getting film adaptations in 2016 but it's only recently coming into its own. The upcoming Netflix film now stars both Jessica Chastain and Jack Gyllenhaal.

NO STRANGER TO NERD CULTURE

Jake Gyllenhaal already has one video game adaptation under his belt when he starred in 2010's Prince of Persia. Recently, the Hollywood star played the role of Quentin “Mysterio” Beck in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. Gyllenhaal established himself as skilled and capable of taking up roles adapted from comics or video games. His addition to The Division movie will undoubtedly bring necessary weight to the entire project. Interstellar and Zero Dark Thirty actress Jessica Chastain joins Gyllenhaal as a co-star on the upcoming film.

The Division takes place in an alternate future where the city of New York suffered a massive outbreak. The spread of a virus through paper money on Black Friday absolutely brought the massive city to ruin. The Division refers to a special group of civilians trained to operate in apocalyptic scenarios. Presumably, Gyllenhaal and Chastain will both play members of this special group of operatives.

Netflix promised no release date for the upcoming film adaptation but fans remain excited. The film's topic and setting bears a striking resemblance to the current ongoing global pandemic. Hopefully, the film serves to strike a tone of hopefulness, especially in these trying times.

Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is available for play on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
