Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has some very strong feelings about the mega-hit docu-series The Last Dance. Recently, the 47-year-old team executive shared how uninterested he is in watching the show. As a matter of fact, Morey even went as far as saying that in a life-or-death situation, he would rather choose death instead of watching Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls in the documentary.
Morey recently went on the ESPN LA’s Mason and Ireland Show, and this is what he had to say about The Last Dance:
“I am not. If I’m on a balcony, I’d might rather jump off,” Morey exaggerated when discussing The Last Dance. “Cause I grew up in Cleveland so I do not want to watch Craig Ehlo get burned again. I’ve got no interest in re-living my childhood of my wonderful teen-based Cleveland team getting beat by Michael Jordan.”
As it turns out, Morey was a Cleveland Cavaliers fan growing up. He was 17 years of age when his Cavs faced off against Jordan's Bulls in the 1989 playoffs, and it was in the final, deciding game of that first-round series that the great MJ hit what is now widely known as “the shot” over Cavs forward Craig Ehlo. Obviously, he is viewing The Last Dance through a bit of a fandom lens, which there's nothing wrong with, especially since it's a tongue-in-cheek quote from the general manager.
Morey does have a valid reason for his rather extremist view, but he has also revealed how he was/is likely not a fan of Jordan. That game-winner that MJ hit is indeed one of the greatest moments in playoffs history, but on the other side of the spectrum, is also one of the most painful instances in the hearts and minds of Cavs fans like Morey.
