It has been a week since we last saw Shai Gilgeous-Alexander take the floor for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The highly-promising shooting guard has been dealing with a foot injury, and as it appears, he is currently not in line for a return in the immediate future.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault provided an update on his star's return to injury, but as it turns out, it looks like SGA is still quite a ways away:

“He's on a return to play,” Daigneault said, via Brandon Rahbar of the Daily Thunder. “A lot of his stuff is in the weight room. He's like an addict. I don't know if we can keep him away from the court. (Laughs). In terms of the time table, I'm not sure.”

The Thunder coach's statement here seems to imply that Gilgeous-Alexander has yet to be cleared for on-court activities. The fact that he's spending most of his time in the weight room likely means that his foot problem still remains to be a significant issue.

SGA is currently dealing with plantar fascitis on his right foot, and this is a type of injury that will only improve with extended rest. It's difficult to determine a firm timetable for this particular type of injury, which is why it isn't surprising that the Thunder have been very vague with their updates.

It's not as if the Thunder are in contention for a playoff spot right now, so it would make sense for them to take their time on Gilgeous-Alexander. The last thing they want is for their star to sustain a more significant injury if they rush him back.
