When Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards said his goal is to be the GOAT, he was not kidding.

On Thursday night, he once again showed why he's one of the brightest young stars in the NBA, scoring a career-high 49 points to lead the Timberwolves to a 127-121 win over the San Antonio Spurs. He shot an efficient 16-of-28 from the field, including 6-of-14 from beyond the arc. He also added six rebounds and eight assists for good measure.

Always the confident kid who doesn't filter his words, the 20-year-old Edwards fired a bold warning to the Western Conference, as the Timberwolves return to the NBA Playoffs after a three-year absence (via NBA on ESPN).

With the win over the Spurs, the Timberwolves improved to 46-35 for the no. 7 seed. They can even steal the no. 6 seed from the Denver Nuggets and avoid the play-in tournament.

But whatever happens, the Timberwolves are primed to enter the postseason with their highest seed since finishing as the top seed in the 2003-04 campaign.

Edwards has been a huge part of the surge of the Timberwolves this season, noticeably improving his numbers across the board from his rookie stint. His improved maturity has helped a lot too, even becoming more vocal. The trio of Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and D'Angelo Russell has surely worked well, with no hints of jealousy among them at all.

The Timberwolves will close out their regular season against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.
