The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement with forward Juancho Hernangomez on Sunday. The two sides have agreed on a three-year, $21 million deal, according to The Athletic's Sham Charania.

Hernangomez had received some interest before eventually deciding to return to Minnesota. The Madrid, Spain native put up career numbers during the 2019-20 season, mostly with the Timberwolves. Though it's only a small sample size of 14 games, Hernangomez shows an exceptional level of promise for the foreseeable future. He averaged 15.9 points along with 8.9 rebounds during his time with the Timberwolves last season, which likely lead to the front office opting to bank on his potential going forward.

While Minnesota's front office should celebrate in retaining the 25-year-old's services, it should be noted that his contract is only three years, with a player option coming in the third year of the deal. If Hernangomez far exceeds his contractual valuation going into the next two seasons, it'd be expected for him to opt out of his third year, making the Timberwolves one of the many teams that'll be in pursuit of him.

Even so, the Timberwolves have had a fairly successful offseason. They were able to re-sign Malik Beasley to a reasonable deal rather than letting him test the market. They also followed through with their No .1 pick in the draft and elected to select University of Georgia standout Anthony Edwards, who'll look to have an impact on the team right away.

The Timberwolves were rumored to be in contention mode this upcoming season, with Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell becoming the newly formed duo for the franchise.
