The Minnesota Timberwolves made a shocking decision on Wednesday by firing their president of basketball operations, Gersson Rosas, who held the position since May of 2019. Shortly after the announcement, the team has promoted Sachin Gupta to take over for Rosas, making him the first Indian-
American ever to run an NBA organization:

However, as ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski noted, the Timberwolves plan to conduct a complete search for a permanent replacement. But for the time being, Gupta will get the chance to oversee basketball operations after previously being under the tutelage of Rosas.

It was a massive surprise to numerous players and staff throughout the Timberwolves organization when Rosas was let go. Franchise star Karl-Anthony Towns even voiced his displeasure on Twitter:

Rosas, who used to be an executive with the Houston Rockets, didn't exactly have the smoothest tenure with Minnesota. They won just 42 games across two seasons with him in the front office but based on KAT's reaction, he was clearly a well-liked figure.

The Timberwolves underwent a lot of changes this offseason though, with Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore buying the franchise for a reported $1.5 billion in July. While Rosas's departure was stunning, Minny will be looking to move on and compete in the Western Conference in 2021-22.
