Despite spending just one year in the school, Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Jimmy Butler is widely regarded as one of Tyler Junior College's most prominent basketball products of all time. So much so, that the Texas-based community college has officially named September 8 as “Jimmy Butler Day.”

The TJC Apaches, Tyler JC's men's basketball team, shared a photo of Butler during his acceptance speech on the team's official Twitter account. As it is seen on the picture, the school also decided to name its lobby after the 28-year-old.

Butler first made waves as an Apache more than a decade ago. According to his Wikipedia page, he averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per ballgame during his freshman year. This led to numerous recruitment offers for the teenager before he finally opted to accept a basketball scholarship from Marquette.

Butler would then spend the next three years as part of the Marquette Golden Eagles, prior to being drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the last pick of the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft.

Butler has since established himself as one of the top swingmen in the league. However, his future with the Timberwolves is still a bit cloudy at this point. After the upcoming season, Butler will have a player option on the final year of his five-year deal. With rumors pertaining to his desire to jump ship circulating, the Wolves may be looking to move Butler soon to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.
