A couple of days ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft, a highly-touted prospect has reportedly been emerging to be selected with the top overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves come Nov. 18.

Out of all the lottery players available, the rebuilding squad is rumored to be leaning towards Georgia's Anthony Edwards to cater to a positional fit within the team, given that they chose to stand pat with the said asset.

Via Jonathan Givony of ESPN:

“Trade talks are still heavily in play for this pick, but most NBA teams are now getting the sense that Edwards is the likely selection if the Wolves stay put. He brings a positional fit with D'Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns, while Wiseman and Ball would overlap with those franchise cornerstones.”

The Timberwolves have been sending mixed signals and expressed interest in all three of Edwards, Wiseman and Ball. However, the most logical choice would be Edwards who currently plays the shooting guard position.

Playing at the wing will allow him to co-exist and play alongside point guard D'Angelo Russell and center Karl-Anthony Towns, as opposed to both LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman who share the same positions.

Edwards has been in talks to be selected early in the first-round proceedings after impressing in his one-and-done season with the Georgia Bulldogs in the collegiate ranks. He averaged norms of 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game through 32 games played en route to being named the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2019-2020.

Despite the feelers being sent out by the Timberwolves, the organization remains to be open to dealing the top pick given the right trade partners. At the end of the day, they will most likely stick with the decision that they feel can contribute best to their playoff aspirations moving forward.
