Tennessee Titans edge-rusher Vic Beasley has had a strange camp with his new team.

Beasley did not report to Titans camp on time, reporting ten days after camp began on July 28. When Beasley did show up, he failed his physical, and was subsequently placed on the non-football injury list.

In fact, it remains to be seen just how motivated Beasley is to continue playing football.

Peter King of NBC Sports said he heard from Atlanta Falcons personnel the team had to convince Beasley to keep playing football rather than follow his dreams of being a pastor.

Are the Titans' linebacker's pastoral aspirations related to his inconsistent production?

The former Clemson standout had a dominant sophomore campaign with the Falcons in 2016, leading the league with 15.5 sacks and six forced fumbles while also racking up 11 tackles for a loss. Beasley was named first-team All-Pro as a result, and it seemed this was the start of a superstar ascent.

But Beasley has not exactly lived up to the promise he showed that year. The 28-year-old had just 5.0 sacks and single-digit quarterback hits in both 2017 and 2018, and Falcons head coach Dan Quinn's efforts to work with him individually did not seem to resonate. Even though Beasley had 8.0 sacks last year, the numbers still seemed underwhelming by comparison.

Beasley's potential absence would be detrimental for both the Titans and the Falcons.

Atlanta would possibly stand to lose a compensatory pick, while the Titans would lose what they hoped would be a reclamation project. Tennessee traded away Jurrell Casey in the offseason, and it needed Beasley to set the edge effectively.

It remains to be seen what the future has in store for Beasley.
